Dow AgroSciences Expands in Australia

A new research alliance between Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences LLC and the Victorian Government in Australia will create 30 agricultural biotech jobs in Melbourne, reports Inside INdiana Business.

Dow AgroSciences and Canadian Biotech

Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences LLC and Agrisoma Biosciences Inc. of British Colombia, Canada have signed a research and commercial license option agreement, reports Inside INdiana Business. The deal provides Dow AgroSciences with access to Agrisoma's proprietary Engineered Trait Loci (ETL) technology. The two companies have collaborated since 2004 on high value protein production in plants and plant cell cultures. The new agreement builds on that relationship and expands use of the ETL technology into field crops.

Dow AgroSciences Collaborates in Australia

Dow AgroSciences LLC, based in Indianapolis, and NemGenix, a biotechnology company based in Perth, Austrialia, have announced a newly established collaboration agreement to pursue novel technologies to produce nematode- resistant crops. The collaboration will support a number of full-time researchers at NemGenix’s facilities in Perth.

NemGenix is a privately held agricultural biotechnology company based at the Western Australia State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre in Perth. The company's focus is the research and development of new controls for plant parasitic nematodes (endemic soil borne pathogens), which are estimated to cause $15bn of crop damage worldwide with losses of more than 15 percent in some crops, such as sugar cane.

Dow Mideast Venture Called Off

The Dow Chemical Company, which owns Indianapolis-based Dow Agrosciences, has announced the cancellation of a joint venture in Kuwait, reports Inside INdiana Business.

The company says it has been informed by the Kuwait Supreme Petroleum Council that the council has reversed its decision to approve K-Dow Petrochemicals. The new company would have been a 50-50 joint venture with Petrochemicals Industries Company.

Dow AgroSciences Partners with Swiss Company

Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences has entered into a new research and development agreement with Switzerland's Syngenta, reports Inside INdiana Business.

The companies will work together to evaluate current and future Dow AgroSciences compounds for incorporation into Syngenta's seed treatment portfolio.

Dow AgroSciences Buys Brazilian Firm

Dow AgroSciences is adding hundreds of employees, the majority at its global headquarters in Indianapolis, reports Inside INdiana Business.

The company recently completed its seventh acquisition, in the past 18 months, with the purchase of a corn seed production facility in Brazil. President and Chief Executive Office Jerome Peribere says South America is a critical component in its global corn seeds strategy to reach $1 billion in sales. He says the agricultural industry is in the midst of a major revolution, with the methods of farming changing rapidly and creating new growth.

Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences LLC has purchased Südwestsaat GbR, a hybrid maize company headquartered in Germany, reports Inside INdiana Business.

SWS focuses on breeding, development, registration and production of high performing maize hybrids for Europe.

Indy's DowAgra Sciences Buys Brazil's Agromen Tecnologia

Dow AgroSciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, announced today that it will substantially expand its Brazilian corn seeds business with the acquisition of Agromen Tecnologia Ltda.

The agreement includes all commercial, production, and research and development assets of the corn seeds business of Agromen, a Brazilian company with 35 years of operations. Brazil is the third largest corn-planting nation in the world.

Dow AgroSciences LLC, based in Indianapolis, provides crop protection, pest and vegetation management, seed, and agricultural biotechnology solutions to agriculture.

Dow AgroSciences Profit Surges on Latin American Gains

Strong demand in Latin America for pesticides and other Dow AgroSciences products caused profit for the Indianapolis-based agricultural arm of Dow Chemical Co. Inc. to spurt 29 percent in the second quarter, according to The Indianapolis Business Journal.

Much of the $208 million in earnings was driven by Brazilian soybean and corn growers as well as by sugar cane farmers who ramped up production to feed ethanol plants.

Dow AgroSciences buys Austrian genetics firm

Dow AgroSciences, the Indianapolis-based agricultural arm of Dow Chemical Co., has bought some assets of Maize Technologies International of Neusiedl am See, Austria, for an undisclosed price, according to IBJ Daily.

Dow AgroSciences anticipates using Maize Technologies' genetics to improve corn grown in short seasons in Europe and the United States.
