IPFW Team in Finals of International Business Competition

Five Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne students have qualified as semi-finalists for an international business competition to be held next month at the University of San Francisco, reports Inside INdiana Business. The team, BioJoint Technologies, will be competing for $10,000 and venture capital funding for its orthopedic product.

IPFW Names International Student Services Director

Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne has hired a new director of International Student Services, reports Inside INdiana Business. Brian Mylrea comes from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where he served as ISS assistant director for the past five years. The ISS office serves as the initial contact for all students from abroad and remains a point of reference during their time on campus.

"Our Agenda is Now on the World's Agenda"

A conference on "World Poverty, World Trade" subtitled "A Critical Phenomenology of World Trade Regulation: Our Agenda is Now on the World's Agenda", will be held 18 and 19 September in the Ballroom of the Walb Student Union at Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne.

The conference schedule includes presentations on Bolivia, Algeria, China, Mexico, Sudanas and India as well as examinations of the role of the World Trade Organization. In addition to faculty from the IPFW campus, speakers are coming from as diverse places as Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and the AFL-CIO.

The international conference is being organized by the IPFW Institute for Human Rights and is co-sponsored by the IPFW Philosophy Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Research and External Support, the Doemer School of Business and Management, IPFW Student Government, and the City of Fort Wayne. IPFW Students Go to China

Ten Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne students enrolled in the Special Studies in International Business class in the Doermer School of Business and Management Sciences head to China tomorrow (5 March), reports the IPFW News Bureau.

The students will be studying and staying in Shanghai and Beijing where they will learn about the Chinese economy, business culture, and cultural differences between China and the United States.

While the students are learning about Chinese business customs, they will also be doing market research for two Fort Wayne businesses, considering how their clients’ products and services may be marketed, sold, and used in that part of the world. Once back in class at IPFW, they will put together international business plans for each firm pointing out how they can improve their strategic positions on the global market.

The group will arrive in Shanghai Friday afternoon and will stay there until Tuesday, when they move on to Beijing. They will leave China 15 March.

The cost of the trip is underwritten by local businessman Bill Lawson.
