More than 250 high school and college students are expected to attend the Indiana Latino Leadership Conference next month in Valparaiso, reports Inside INdiana Business. La Casa, the Latino Culture Center at Indiana University in Bloomington and Ivy Tech Community College are co-sponsoring the event, which is designed to cultivate leadership among Latino students.
The 11th annual conference take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 27 February at Ivy Tech's Valparaiso Campus (3100 Ivy Tech Drive, Valparaiso). For more information about the conference go online. The fee for students is $10.

April in Paris Dinner to be 26 April
The 19th annual April in Paris dinner sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College of Central Indiana will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. 26 April in The Fountains Banquet and Conference Center, 502 East Carmel Drive, Carmel.Enjoy a seven-course gourmet meal and wine airing planned, prepared and served by students from Ivy Tech's Hospitality Administration Program. There'll also be a silent and a live aution. Proceeds will benefit Ivy Tech Community College Central Indiana student scholarships.

Want to Participate in IU's Latina/o Leadership Conference?
The Indiana Latina/o Leadership Conference committee is inviting Indiana University student organizations and college and high school students across the state to participate in workshops or to submit papers for its 10th annual conference in 2009, reports the IU News Bureau
The committee is seeking proposals for workshops related to the theme, "Sleeping Giant? From Invisible to Invincible." The conference, which will be 28 February in the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Campus Center, is being organized by students at IU Bloomington, IUPUI and Ivy Tech Community College.
Proposals must be postmarked by 24 January. Workshops and presentations must be one hour in length and should be relevant to Latino high school or college students and serve to promote education, leadership, social awareness or culturally relevant information.

馬偕博士
新桃源掌中劇團 (New Tau-Yuan Puppet Troupe) presents a performance of 馬偕博士 (“The Black-Bearded Barbarian: Rev. George Leslie Mackay”) at 4 p.m. Sunday (28 September) in the fourth floor auditorium of the North Meridian Center of Ivy Tech Community College, 50 West Fall Creek Parkway North Drive, Indianapolis.
The performance is spoken in Hoklo (the troupe's from Taiwan), but there will be English subtitles. Admission is free!

Purdue and Ivy Tech Tackle Immigration Issues
An informational forum on immigration is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday (19 February) in Room 133 of Ivy Hall at Ivy Tech's Lafayette campus, 3101 South Creasy Lane, Lafayette. The event is sponsored by Purdue's College of Liberal Arts and Ivy Tech's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The speakers and their topics are:
* Susan Curtis, Purdue professor of history and associate dean of interdisciplinary programs and engagement in the College of Liberal Arts, will moderate.
* Adriela Fernandez, associate dean for academic programs in Purdue's College of Liberal Arts. will talk about the economic and social aspects of recent immigration to the area.
* James McCann, Purdue professor of political science, will talk about the political impact of immigration to Indiana in the last three decades.
* David C. Berry, chair of School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of history at Ivy Tech's Lafayette campus, will provide a historical context for the different waves of immigration in the state.
* Ivan Hernandez, director of admissions at Ivy Tech's Lafayette campus, will address immigration's impact on education, specifically on resources and needs.
A question-and-answer session will follow the panel presentation.
