International Violin Competition Announces Winners

The laureates for the 2010 International Violin Competition hail from three continents. They are:

Emmis Wins Hungarian Legal Battle

A Hungarian court has ruled in favor of Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications Corporation in its fight to regain a radio license in that country, reports Inside INdiana Business. The court has ruled the body that oversees broadcast licenses in Hungary illegally award a contract. The ruling means Emmis-owned Sláger Radio was one of only two qualifying bids for the national radio licenses.

Did you know that the festival honors Lotus Dickey (1911-1989)? The folk singer, songwriter, and musician from rural Orange County, Indiana, wrote tunes and songs that drew from his family and community, as well as from country singers and fiddlers he heard on the radio. Each year, the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival honors Lotus Dickey's memory with a set of music or an interactive workshop that introduces new audiences to his music and the old-time traditions of the United States.

"Hungarian Rhapsody" Concert in April

The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis will present the next concert in their 2008-2009 Laureate Series at 7:30 p.m. 16 April in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6050 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis.

The concert, entitled “Hungarian Rhapsody”, will feature violinist Barnabás Kelemen, the 2002 IVCI Gold Medalist from Hungary, and his wife, Katalin Kokas, a violinist and violist (pictured). The unique duo program features works for two violins or violin and viola from the Baroque to the twentieth century including duos by Leclair, Mozart and Bartók. Mr. Kelemen will also play Bach's D minor Partita for Solo Violin which is known for the famous Chaconne.

Emmis Adds Bulgarian Radio Chain

Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications Corporation announced it has acquired Inforadio, a national radio chain broadcasting in 13 Bulgarian cities, according to Indianapolis Business Journal. Balkan Broadcasting EAD, an Emmis subsidiary, purchased 100 percent of the stations' parent company, Infopress & Company OOD, a Bulgarian limited liability company. Emmis International also owns and operates national stations or networks in Belgium (Be One), Hungary (Slager Radio), and Slovakia (Radio Expres).
