Eli Lilly and Company is closing a facility in Singapore, impacting approximately 130 employees, reports Inside INdiana Business The pharmaceutical manufacturer says some of the projects and capabilities will be shifted to Indianapolis.

John Boyd Taught in Singapore and China

An Indiana State University music professor spent part of his summer spreading his love of music to students and music professionals in Singapore and China, reports the ISU News Bureau.

John Boyd, director of Bands, professor of music, and coordinator of ISU’s Wind/Percussion Division, conducted the Central Conservatory Wind Orchestra in two concerts in Beijing in addition to teaching a masterclass for the Conservatory’s conducting students and judging the China Trumpet Guild and All Asia Solo Competition in Guangzhou.

Specialty Coating Systems Buys Japanese Company

Specialty Coating Systems, Inc., has acquired Parylene Japan K.K. According to Inside INdiana Business, the company says it is also expanding its operations in Singapore. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, SCS provides Parylene conformal coating services, systems and materials.

ISU band director works in Singapore

John P. Boyd (left), director of bands at Indiana State University and coordinator of ISU's Wind/Percussion Division, served as visiting professor and full-time conductor of the chamber winds ensemble at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore for the 2006-7 academic year.

Boyd was the first full-time conductor the chamber winds ensemble at the conservatory, and taught classes in conducting and wind literature.

The Conservatory was established in 2001 in collaboration with the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and the National University of Singapore, a leading university in the Asia-Pacific region. The Conservatory offers undergraduate degrees in performance in orchestral instruments, piano, and composition, and has an enrollment of 180 students representing 12 countries, including the United States and New Zealand.
